Privacy Policy
Last updated 3 July 2026
The45 (“The45”, “we”, “us”) is a platform for following Gaelic games — live scores, fixtures, results, club pages and fan rewards — and for clubs and county boards to run and score their own matches. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it.
The45 is operated by Unitops Media, the data controller for the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Irish Data Protection Acts. If you have any question about this policy or your data, contact us at privacy@the45.ie.
1. Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run the service:
- Account details — your email address, display name, and a securely hashed password. We never store your password in readable form.
- Profile & preferences — the teams, clubs, counties and sports you follow, notification settings, and (optionally) age range and county, so we can tailor scores and content to you.
- Content you create — for club administrators and scorers: fixtures, live scores and match events, team sheets, and any match “moments” (text and photos) you upload.
- Rewards & activity — points, referrals, survey responses, and interactions you make in the app.
- Device & usage data — app version, device type, and anonymised usage analytics (pages viewed, links followed) so we can improve the app. See section 4.
- Notification tokens — if you enable push notifications, an anonymous device token used to send you score alerts.
2. How we use your information
We process your data on the following legal bases:
- To provide the service (performance of a contract) — creating and securing your account, showing live scores and fixtures, and enabling clubs to score matches.
- With your consent — sending push notifications, marketing or rewards emails, and using optional analytics. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests — keeping the platform secure, preventing abuse, and understanding aggregate usage to improve features, in a way that does not override your rights.
We do not sell your personal data.
3. Publicly visible information
Match scores, fixtures, results, competition tables and club pages are public by design — that is the point of a live-scores platform. Team sheets published by a club (player names, jersey numbers and positions) are visible to anyone viewing that match. Your account email and password are never public. Your display name and profile activity are only shown where you choose to make them visible (for example, referrals or public leaderboards, if enabled).
4. Analytics & notifications
- Analytics — we use a privacy-respecting, self-hosted analytics tool (Matomo) to measure aggregate usage. It does not sell your data or build cross-site advertising profiles.
- Push notifications — delivered via OneSignal so we can send score alerts for teams you follow. You can turn these off in your device settings or in the app at any time.
- Voice features — where you use voice scoring or commentary, a short audio recording is sent to our servers and a speech-to-text provider solely to transcribe it into match events; recordings are not used to identify you or for advertising.
5. Who we share data with
We share data only with service providers (“processors”) who help us run The45, under contracts that require them to protect it:
- Cloud hosting and database providers (application servers and our database).
- Image and media storage (for club logos and match photos).
- Email delivery (account, verification and rewards emails).
- Push-notification and analytics providers (section 4).
- Social platforms (for example X/Twitter) only where a club connects its own account to auto-share its match scores.
We may also disclose data if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and security of The45 and its users.
6. Children & underage players
Gaelic games are played at all ages, so team sheets and match data entered by clubs may include the names, jersey numbers and positions of players who are minors. This information is entered by the club or county board that manages the team, acting as controller of that data, and it is their responsibility to have the appropriate consent from players or their parents/guardians before entering it.
The45 accounts are intended for adults (16 and over). We do not knowingly create accounts for, or collect account data from, children. If you believe a child has provided us account data, or you are a parent/guardian who wants a minor’s player details removed, contact us at privacy@the45.ie and we will act promptly.
7. International transfers
Some of our providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses to ensure your data receives an equivalent level of protection.
8. How long we keep it
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. Match and competition data is retained as part of the historical record of the game. If you delete your account we remove or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain limited information to meet a legal obligation or resolve disputes.
9. Security
We protect your data with encryption in transit, hashed passwords, access controls and hosting on reputable infrastructure. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to guard against unauthorised access, loss or misuse.
10. Your rights
Under GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you, and receive a copy (portability).
- Correct inaccurate data, or complete incomplete data.
- Erase your data (“right to be forgotten”) where there is no overriding reason to keep it.
- Object to, or restrict, certain processing, and withdraw any consent you have given.
To exercise any of these, email privacy@the45.ie. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie.
11. Cookies & local storage
We use essential cookies and on-device storage to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the “last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
